How is publishing doing in a global perspective? Flat markets in Europe contrast strong growth in emerging markets such as Brazil or China. Exports into most emerging economies are booming, yet only in the English language. And the US and the UK, as the two strongest exporters of books globally have highly different performances according to target markets.
A research project of the International Publishers Association (IPA), co-sponsored by the London Book Fair and BookExpo America. In 2011, IPA launched this initiative to collect and analyze key data on publishing markets worldwide. Publishing industry consultant Rüdiger Wischenbart puts his latest findings in the context of the value of books and publishing in a globalizing knowledge economy, with a special focus on emerging markets.
